According to this road test report of KIA Sportage by NRMA on January 2002, the best things about the vehicles are the good value for money, a capable road performer, tight turning circle, and the good load space. However, there are worst things too, including the standards of finish below average, lacklustre on-road performance, slow steering, and basic seat comfort. With its sharp pricing, the Kia Sportage continues as one of the better value buys in the medium four-wheel drive section. The latest version raises this value for money equation with its advances in load and occupant space, plus its refreshed visual aspect and its extra equipment. There are other 4WDs in this segment that put in better on-road performances with their more powerful engines and/or better sorted chassis set-ups, however the Sportage can certainly hold its own in the rough stuff.
The technical specifications of the vehicle like the engine, transmission, wheels, tyres, steering, dimensions, towing, and the test result is also available in the file.
